When I attend a wedding, it feels like you become a part of someones family for the day. You are there from the earliest moments in the morning until the sun starts to set. You see everything and hear so much. There are palpable emotions and its like a microcosm of these peoples lives, all encapsulated in one day. Everyone they love is there. The memories are shared. The looks given when words aren’t even needed. Hugs between friends and family that maybe haven’t met in a while because they now live far apart. The taking of the photograph is almost like freezing these memories.
I am so pleased to have been asked back to the Dougan household, to stand alongside Terri and Paudie on their special day, having documented her sister Aideens wedding last year. There can be no greater compliment than being invited back and seeing everyone again (even when I do frogmarch the bridesmaids up hills in heels lol! – So worth it!!!)
Terri is such a beautiful wee soul; quietly spoken and delicate. Her wedding day had this exact feeling. Her love for bluebells, vintage pastel colours, lace, and sprigs of little flowers. These things were dotted throughout the day.
Paudie had never bought Terri a bouquet of flowers before – she rationalises that she would much prefer something you can plant as at least it doesn’t fade away. However tradition was broken when a lovely bouquet arrived in the morning. Even after many years together, there are still days when there are firsts!
There will be more to share from this wedding but for now, have a peep at this lovely early summer wedding amongst the bluebells and hazy sunsets of late May.
